Liposuction
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2007 there were 302,000 liposuction cases making it the second most popular surgical cosmetic procedure. Generally speaking liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of your body by targeted removal of fat that has not responded to diet and exercise. Liposuction also referred to as suction assisted lipectomy, lipoplasty, power assisted liposuction, ultrasound assisted liposuction or liposculpture aims to remove unwanted excess fat. These techniques can be used to treat one or more areas of the body including:
- Thighs
- Abdomen
- Hips and buttocks
- Waist and flanks
- Chin and neck
- Inner knee
- Upper arms
- Breast or chest area
- Calves and ankles
- Back
Liposuction can be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures when performed in healthy patients. Sometimes it is a good addition to tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty), male or female breast reduction, and facelift procedures. Liposuction should be seen as sculpting the body, not just simple removal of fat. My goal is to not only focus on what fat to remove, but also to contour and shape the remaining tissue so that you receive a proportional, natural result.
Liposuction is not a substitute for proper diet and exercise, and should not be seen as a treatment for obesity. It is also not an effective treatment for dimpled skin or cellulite. Liposuction is however, a way to permanently reshape areas of your body that are out of proportion to the rest of your body.
